I sat looking at the tray of grey, steaming morsels. All eyes were upon me. I looked around at my husband, Vadim, my brother-in-law, Snookie, our host and hostess, Gantulga and Altnaa, and Snookie’s kids, Jason, eleven, and Natalie, thirteen, who had just come in after being taken for their first horse riding experience by Altnaa and Gantulga’s children. I was still recovering from a visit to the ‘toilet facilities,’ i.e. a deep hole with a couple of planks across it. It was housed in a separate tent, with a small heater and toilet rolls in a carrier bag.
